  1. Damping ratio
ratio of actual damping to critical damping; if the damping ratio is less than one a system is said to be underdamped and if it is greater than one a system is said to be overdamped.

  2. damping ratio
for a linear time-invariant system of the second order described by the differential equation the damping ratio is the value of the factor ? NOTE 1 - ?o is the characteristic angular frequency of the system. NOTE 2 - is the eigen angular frequency of the system.

  3. damping ratio
ratio of the actual damping to the critical damping

  4. Damping ratio
Measure for the damping of wind vanes. It represents the ratio between the consecutive damped deflection amplitudes (for example 3rd amplitu-de to 1st amplitude) in one direction.

  5. Damping ratio
In engineering, the `damping ratio` is a dimensionless measure describing how oscillations in a system decay after a disturbance. Many systems exhibit oscillatory behavior when they are disturbed from their position of static equilibrium. A mass suspended from a spring, for example, might, if pulled...

11 February 2012

This day in history:
On 11th February, 1858, a 14 year old French peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary at her native Lourdes.
