Look up: corrosion

  1. Corrosion
Oxidation of metals in the presence of air and moisture. For more information see Corrosion
    Found on http://home.nas.net/~dbc/cic_hamilton/di

  2. Corrosion
Corrosion is the external chemical changes which take place in materials in ordinary use, resulting in their injury or destruction. The corrosion of metal is very important, but the corrosion of stone is also a major problem. The corrosion or iron is commonly known as rusting.

  3. Corrosion
Except for gold, metals corrode in sea water. Corroded metals are a special problem. Sometimes iron has disappeared totally, just leaving a cavity inside a concretion, which can be casted (filled with plastic or plaster). Sometimes the metal is still there, but need various conservation treatment. This is described by Donny Hamilton in Methods of Conserving Archaaeological Material from Underwater Sites.

  4. Corrosion
Deteriorative loss of a metal as a result of dissolution environmental reactions.

  5. Corrosion
The dissolution and wearing away of metal caused by a chemical reaction such as between water and the pipes, chemicals touching a metal surface, or contact between two metals.

  7. Corrosion
Deteriation due to prolonged adverse physical condition. Corrosion resistant alloys are generally non-ferrous based. Corrosion resistant ring grooves such as stainless steel inlay are available from Anson.

  8. Corrosion
A process by which metal is corroded by chemical or electrochemical influences.
    Found on http://www.wjleigh.co.uk/Glossary.aspx

  9. corrosion
any of a variety of complex chemical or electrochemical processes, e.g., rust, by which metal is destroyed through reaction with its environment.

  11. Corrosion
Deteriorative loss of a metal as a result of dissolution environmental reactions. It is a transformation process in which the metal passes from its elemental form to a combined (or compound) form. See also: Cathodic Protection.

  13. corrosion
corrode. Corrosion is a reaction that involves action of an oxidizing agent on a metal. The oxidizing agent is often oxygen dissolved in water. See How Iron Rusts for examples.

  16. corrosion
The chemical or electrochemical reaction between a material, usually a metal, and its environment that produces a deterioration of the material and its properties.

  18. Corrosion
The destruction of the surface of a metal by the chemical action of the fluid in which it is immersed. This takes the form of rust in steels and pitting in light alloys. Corrosion is caused particularly through the action of sea water. Various chemical treatments such as anodising are used to combat corrosion.

This day in history:
On Friday, November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot as he rode in a motorcade through the streets of Dallas, Texas. At his death, the 35th president was 46 years old and had served less than three years in office. Despite this intimate experience of events surrounding the death of John F. Kennedy, the nation failed to achieve closure. Oswald never confessed, and the facts of the case remain mysterious. The Warren Commission's conclusion Oswald acted alone failed to satisfy the public. In 1976, the House of Representatives' Select Committee on Assassinations reopened investigation of the murder. The Committee reported that Lee Harvey Oswald probably was part of a conspiracy that may have involved organized crime. read more
