  2. ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. ADSL uses standard phone lines to provide high speed data communications. ADSL upstream speeds (from the user) normally top out at 128Kbps and downstream (to the user) at no more than 1.5Mbps. A separate phone line i

  7. ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. The most common of the DSL techniques. ADSL uses sophisticated and dynamic modulation techniques to enable high bit rate services (typically 500 Kbps uplink and 2 Mbps downlink) to be delivered over standard telephone wiring (the standard twisted pair). Ultimate bandwidths are often limited by cross-talk. ADSL is the basis for the much-anticipated `broadband revolution` given that twisted pairs are already universal but fibre and co-axial cable are not.

  8. ADSL
Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. A data transport system, using normal copper wires with two channels, one for upstream and the other for downstream.

  9. ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. A method used in broadband connection technology for moving data over regular phone lines. An ADSL circuit is much faster than a regular phone connection, and the wires coming into the subscriber`s premises are the same (copper) wires used for regular phone service.

  10. ADSL
(In topic `Network Architectures`) ADSL (asymmetric DSL) is one of the major types of digital subscriber lines, a new technology allowing more data to be sent over existing copper lines by transforming them into high-speed digital lines. ADSL enables ultra-fast Internet access and enables teleworkers to access corporate networks. ADSL is also being

  11. ADSL
(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) -- A variation of Digital Subscriber Line designed for an upstream data flow (client-to-server) which is a fraction of the downstream data flow (server-to-client). Typically the upstream data flow is measured in kilobits per second while the downstream data flow ...

  16. ADSL
Abbreviation for 'Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line'. A technology for fast Internet access – it turns an existing telephone line into a digital connection capable of transmitting up to 8Mbps. The download speed is greater than the upload speed. Also known as 'Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line'.

  17. ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. A technology for providing high transmissions speeds for video and voice to homes over ordinary copper telephone wire. It will be most cost- effective in areas with low market penetration of 'cable' TV. In areas with higher penetration coax is expected to be more cost-effective.

12 February 2012

This day in history:
/calendar/ On February 12, 1809, Charles Robert Darwin was born at The Mount in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. Darwin was one of the last of the eclectic scientists who preceded the age of professional specialization. His genius lay in his ability to select, from the facts which he so diligently collected, every relevant point and fit it into his bold and far-reaching theories. He was not the first to advance a theory of evolution; but his massive weight of evidence carried conviction where earlier theorists had failed. He was shy and modest and shrank from controversy, an unfortunate trait in the author of the most controversial book of the century. read more
