    a chronic type caused by a recessive gene located on the X chromosome, affecting only males; it may be present at birth or appear in early infancy. Affected babies have prominent, very adherent scales, often brown, especially on the neck, limbs, trunk, and buttocks.

  5. X-linked recessive ichthyosis
    This recessive disorder, X-linked ichthyosis, is found in males. Clinically seen as a more severe variant of ichthyosis vulgaris, with relative but not complete sparing of the flexures, it commonly shows thickened brown scales. The palms and soles may show some hyperkeratosis. Corneal opacities are found in some patients.

This day in history:
On 10th February 1996, a computer, Deep Blue, beat Russian Garry Kasparov, the greatest chess player on the planet, and mankind’s place in the order of things was reshuffled. The match immediately became an iconic symbol of the advances made in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Kasparov has since retired, like Deep Blue, which now resides in a museum. He has become a vocal advocate for democracy in today’s Russia. read more
