  2. supercharger
Mechanically powered device that compresses the combustible charge into the cylinder, artificially increasing the compression ratio. When the 'blower' is driven by exhaust gas, the device is called a turbocharger.

  7. Supercharger
A `supercharger` (`blower`) is an air compressor that forces more air and, thus, more oxygen into the combustion chamber(s) of an internal combustion engine than achievable with ambient atmospheric pressure (natural aspiration). The additional mass of oxygen-containing air that is forced into the engine improves on its volumetric efficiency which allows it to burn more fuel in a given cycle`which in turn makes it produce more power. A superchar...

23 November 2009

This day in history:
At sixteen minutes past five on 23rd November 1963, a British television institution was born. Doctor Who would go on to become the longest-running science-fiction programme in the world, eventually spawning twenty six seasons of adventures from 1963 to 1989. From the very first - William Hartnell in 1963 - to the very last - Paul McGann, in the 1996 TV Movie - the Doctor has wandered through time and space in his trusty time machine, an old type-40 TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Although appearing to be nothing more than a battered blue police box, it is in fact vastly bigger on the inside than on the outside, and always departs with its familiar wheezing, groaning sound. read more
