  3. Standard enthalpy change of reaction
The `standard enthalpy change of reaction` is the enthalpy change that occurs in a system when one mole of matter is transformed by a chemical reaction under standard conditions. For a generic chemical reaction :nA A + nB B + ... -> nP P + nQ Q ... the standard enthalpy change of reaction `Îâ€?Hr` is related with the standard enthalpy change of formation `Îâ€?Hf` of the reactants and products by the following equation: Delta!H_r = sum_{n_iD...

  4. standard entropy of reaction
(Srxn°) entropy of reaction. A change in entropy associated with a reaction involving substances in their standard states. A superscript circle (°) distinguishes standard enthalpy changes from enthalpy changes which involve reactants and products that are not in their standard states.

  5. Standard Reaction
A reaction in which the numbers of moles of reactants shown in the balanced equation, all in their standard states, are completely converted to the numbers of moles of products shown in the balanced equation, also sall at their standard state.

  10. Startle reaction
The `startle reaction`, also called `startle response` or `alarm reaction`, is the response of mind and body to a sudden unexpected stimulus, such as a flash of light, a loud noise, or a quick movement near the face. In human beings, the reaction includes physical movement away from the stimulus, a contraction of the muscles of the arms and legs, and often blinking. It also includes blood pressure, respiration, and breathing changes. The muscle r...

  16. Staudinger reaction
The `Staudinger reaction` or `Staudinger reduction` is a chemical reaction in which the combination of an azide with a phosphine or phosphite produces an iminophosphorane intermediate . Combined with the hydrolysis of the aza-ylide to produce a phosphine oxide and an amine, this reaction is a mild method of reducing an azide to an amine. Triphenylphosphine is commonly used as the reducing agent, yielding triphenylphosphine oxide as the side produ...

  18. Stepwise reaction
A `stepwise reaction` is a chemical reaction with one or more reaction intermediates and involving at least two consecutive elementary reactions. The rate law of an elementary reaction is rather simple. On the other hand, when combining multiple elementary steps, the rate law can become rather complex. Moreover, when speaking about catalytic reactions, the diffusion may also limit the reaction. In general, however, there is one very slow step, w...
