  7. Planck
[spacecraft] Planck is a space observatory of the European Space Agency (ESA) and designed to observe the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) over the entire sky, at a high sensitivity and angular resolution. Planck was built in the Cannes Mandelieu Space Center by Thales A...

  8. Planck
[crater] Like many lunar formations of this size, the outer rim has been damaged and eroded by lesser impacts, leaving a rugged ring of peaks and ridges that is notched and incised by small craters. The western rim of this walled plain is neatly overlain by a long lunar valley designated the...

  9. planck
an MKS unit of 'action' (energy expended over time) or of angular momentum. The planck is equal to 1 joule second (J•s) or about 0.7375 foot pound second (ft•lb•s). The unit honors the German physicist Max Planck (1858-1947), the originator of quantum theory.

  10. Planck
A European Space Agency spacecraft designed to search for tiny irregularities in the cosmic microwave background over the whole sky with unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution. It will be ten times more sensitive then anything previously flown. Named after the quantum theorist Max Planck (...

27 May 2012

This day in history: The Queen Mary made her maiden voyage, on the Southampton-Cherbourg-New York route, on 27 May 1936. The passenger accommodation emphasised the first two classes, cabin and tourist. The propulsion machinery of the ship produced a massive 160,000 SHP and gave it a speed of over 30 knots. Despite expectations that the ship would try to break speed records on its first voyage a thick fog destroyed any hope of this. The Queen Mary spent a short time in drydock during July whilst adjustments were made to the propellers and turbines. When the ship returned to service, in August, it made a record voyage from Bishop's Rock to Ambrose light and took the Blue Riband from the Normandie. read more
