  1. pi bond
( bond) Compare with sigma bond. In the valence bond theory, a pi bond is a valence bond formed by side-by-side overlap of p orbitals on two bonded atoms. In most multiple bonds, the first bond is a sigma bond and all of the others are pi bonds.

  3. Pi bond
In chemistry, `pi bonds` are covalent chemical bonds where two lobes of one involved electron orbital overlap two lobes of the other involved electron orbital. Only one of the orbital's nodal planes passes through both of the involved nuclei. The Greek letter `€` in their name refers to p orbitals, since the orbital symmetry of the pi bond is the same as that of the p orbital when seen down the bond axis. P orbitals usually engage in this sor...

  5. Pi-Bond
A chemical bond formed by the indirect overlap of two atomic orbitals. I don't think I actually want to get into this, but the two bonds in a double bond are not the same; one is a sigma bond, formed by the direct Head-to-Head' overlap of two atomic orbitals, and this is considerably stronger than the second one, which is a pi-bond.'...

  6. Pickup bond
A bond with a relatively high coupon that is close to the date at which it is callable, meaning that a fall in interest rates will most likely cause early redemption of the bond at a premium.

9 November 2009

This day in history:
On 9 November 1989 the Berlin Wall was finally breached by jubilant Berliners , unifying a city that had been divided for over 30 years. The 28-mile (45 km) barrier dividing Germany's capital was built in 1961 to prevent East Berliners fleeing to the West, but as Communism in the Soviet Republic and Eastern Europe began to crumble, pressure mounted on the East German authorities to open the Berlin border. At midnight on 9th November East Germany's Communist rulers gave permission for gates along the Wall to be opened after hundreds of people converged on crossing points. They surged through cheering and shouting and were be met by jubilant West Berliners on the other side. read more
