Look up: Photosynthesis

  1. Photosynthesis
the production of sugar from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll, activated by light energy and releasing oxygen.

  2. photosynthesis
biochemical process in which light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll, and is used to fuel the building of sugar molecules.
    Found on http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/glossary/gl

  3. Photosynthesis
A nifty reaction carried out inside green plants, and by a number of different kinds of bacteria, which basically uses energy from the sun to run the combustion reaction backwards.
    Found on http://www.kcpc.usyd.edu.au/discovery/gl

  4. Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates by chlorophyll under the influence of light.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/nol.php

  5. Photosynthesis
The process plants use to change air and water into food, using the sun's energy.
    Found on http://www.cahe.nmsu.edu/news/aggloss.ht

  6. Photosynthesis
The manufacture by plants of carbohydrates and oxygen from carbon dioxide mediated by chlorophyll in the presence of sunlight.
    Found on http://www.epa.gov/OCEPAterms/

  7. photosynthesis
The manufacture by plants of carbohydrates and oxygen from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of chlorophyll with sunlight as the energy source. Oxygen and water vapor are released in the process. Photosynthesis is dependent on favorable temperature and moisture conditions as well as on the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration. Increased levels of carbon dioxide can increase net photosynthesis in many plants.

  9. Photosynthesis
The enzymatic conversion of light energy into chemical energy and use of this to form carbohydrates (as a by-product) and oxygen from CO2 and H2O in plant chloroplasts.
    Found on http://www.pestmanagement.co.uk/lib/glos

  10. photosynthesis
(Life processes and cells) the chemical change that occurs in the leaves of green plants that uses light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose. Oxygen is produced as a by product of photosynthesis.

  15. Photosynthesis
is possibly the most important process on earth. It is how plants transform the energy of the sun to power the conversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates, producing oxygen as a by-product. Carbohydrates are the basis of all food and oxygen is required by all animals to live.
    Found on http://www.epaw.co.uk/EPT/glossary.html

  16. Photosynthesis
Process by which green plants convert light to energy by transforming carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates.
    Found on http://www.diracdelta.co.uk/science/sour

  17. Photosynthesis
the process used within living organisms by which energy from the sun is stored in carbohydrates made from carbon dioxide and water, using chlorofyll from plants. It is the major natural energy collecting reaction, occurring mainly in plants. Plants use chlorofyll (a green photo-active pigment) to capture solar energy within the chemical bonds of...

21 November 2009

This day in history:
On 21st November 1974 the Provisional IRA plants bombs in two Birmingham pubs: the Mulberry Bush and the Tavern in the Town. Twenty-one people die and 182 are injured. A few minutes before the explosions a warning had been telephoned to the local newspaper, the Birmingham Post and Mail, but it was far too late. The first Birmingham bomb, at the Mulberry Bush pub in the basement of the Rotunda, a 20-storey office and retail complex and it exploded six minutes after the telephone warning. There was not enough time for police to clear the area. Earlier that year nine soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded on a coach on the M62 near Bradford, while two bombs in Guildford killed four soldiers and injured scores of other people. read more
