  6. Open Circuit
The lack of electrical contact in any part of the measuring circuit. An open circuit is usually characterized by rapid large jumps in displayed potential, followed by an off-scale reading.

  7. open circuit
noun an incomplete electrical circuit in which no current flows

  8. Open circuit
The term `Open circuit` may refer to: *Open-circuit voltage, the difference of electrical potential between two terminals of a device when there is no external load connected *Open-circuit scuba, a type of SCUBA-diving equipment where the user breathes from the set and then exhales to the surroundings without recycling the exhaled air *Self-contained breathing apparatus, used in open-circuit SCUBA *An electrical circuit is an `open circuit` if i...

  11. open-circuit
qualifies an input, output or transfer immittance when the other ports have zero terminating admittances, or a forward or reverse transfer ratio when the port corresponding to the numerator has zero terminating admittance NOTE - Examples in IEC 60027-2 are the open-circuit output impedance, the open-circuit output admittance, the open-circuit rever...

  12. opening time of an output-break circuit
for a relay which is in the release condition, the time interval between the instant a specified value of the input energizing quantity is applied under specified conditions and the instant when the output-break circuit first opens
    Found on http://www.electropedia.org/iev/iev.nsf/

  13. opening time of an output-make circuit
for a relay which is in an operate condition, the time interval between the instant the input energizing quantity is removed under specified conditions and the instant when the output-make circuit first opens
