    `Ja Lama` (also known as `Dambijantsan`, or `Dambija`, , (1862-1922)) was an adventurer of unknown birth and background who posed as a Buddhist lama, though it is not clear whether he actually was one. He claimed to be a grandson and later the reincarnation of Amursana, the Khoit-Oirat prince who led the Dzungar Khanate to its extermination in 1757. He played an important role in the struggle for Mongolia's independence.

    `Jamphel Gyatso` (1758 – 1804) was the 8th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Born in 1758 at Lhari Gang (Tob-rgyal Lha-ri Gang) in the Upper Tsang region of southwestern Tibet his father, Sonam Dhargye, and mother, Phuntsok Wangmo, were originally from Kham. They were distant descendants of Dhrala Tsegyal, who was one of the major heroes of the Gesar epic.

This day in history:
On Sunday, November 24th, 1991, Freddie Mercury died peacefully at his home in London of AIDS related bronchial pneumonia. Freddie was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery in accordance with his religion. Many stars from the world or music and showbiz attended the service, including friends Elton John and David Bowie. On April 20th, 1992 a tribute concert in Freddie's memory was held at Wembley Stadium. Tickets to the gig sold out in a matter of hours, even before the full list of bands was available. Many of the worlds most famous rock stars took part in it. This concert was later released on DVD and video for all to enjoy, with the proceeds going to the Mercury Phoenix Trust. read more
