  2. enzyme
    catalyst
    Found on http://www.graduateshotline.com/list.htm

  3. enzyme
complex protein which helps to speed biochemical reactions. Enzymes are important in the construction and degradation of other molecules.
    Found on http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/glossary/gl

  4. Enzyme
A protein that catalyses a biochemical reaction. For example, chemical engineers make nitrogen (N2) into ammonia (NH3) using high temperatures and pressures - generating the power to make fertiliser by this process accounts for about 2% of all anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Bacteria do the ...

  6. enzyme
Protein catalyst that causes chemical reactions in the cell, producing compounds necessary for the cells growth and survival.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/visitor-contrib

  7. Enzyme
Specific proteins which act as biological catalysts to regulate the rate of biochemical reactions in all living organisms by lowering the energy of activation. Enzymes may be biologically synthesised, extracted and employed to catalyse laboratory or industrial biochemical reactions.

  9. Enzyme
A Protein that catalyses chemical reactions of other substances without itself being destroyed or altered.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/visitor-contrib

  10. Enzyme
a protein that controls and helps a chemical reaction to take place, but is not used up in the process. Usually each enzyme is specific for a particular step in a reaction. Enzymes are sensitive to their environment, especially to excessive temperature or pH.

  11. enzyme
[n] - any of several complex proteins that are produced by cells and act as catalysts in specific biochemical reactions
    Found on http://www.webdictionary.co.uk/definitio

  12. Enzyme
A protein that speeds up a chemical reaction or causes a chemical change in another substance. Enzymes do their work without being changed or used in the process.

  20. Enzyme
Protein or protein-based molecules that speed up chemical reactions occurring in living things. Enzymes act as catalysts for a single reaction, converting a specific set of reactants (called substrates) into specific products. Without enzymes life as we know it would be impossible. The increase in ra...

11 February 2012

This day in history:
On 11th February, 1858, a 14 year old French peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary at her native Lourdes. She also revealed that the waters of a spring near a grotto in Lourdes had been given healing powers by the Virgin. Eventually, the Roman Catholic church decided that the visions were authentic. Franz Werfel wrote the novel, Song of Bernadette, based on the story of Bernadette's visions. read more
