  4. Albedo
The percent of the incoming radiation that is reflected by a natural surface such as the ground, ice, snow, water. Atmospheric albedo includes clouds and particulates in the atmosphere. Synonym reflectivity

  7. Albedo
The reflecting power of a planet or other non-luminous object. For example, the Moon is a poor reflector of light and its albedo is just 0.12. Albedo is typically expressed by a simple numerical factor, 1.0 means a perfect reflector, 0.0 means no reflection at all.

  8. Albedo
A measure of the reflectivity of an object and is expressed as the ratio of the amount of light reflected by an object to that of the amount of light incident upon it. A value of 1 represents a perfectly reflecting (white) surface, whilst a value of zero represents a perfectly absorbing (black) surface. Some typical albedos are: The Earth - 0.39; T…

  9. Albedo
The ratio of the amount of radiation reflected from an object's surface compared to the amount that strikes it. This varies according to the texture, color, and expanse of the object's surface and is reported in percentage. Surfaces with high albedo include sand and snow, while low albedo rates inc...

  10. Albedo
Albedo - the amount (usually quoted as a percentage %) of incident light that is reflected from a surface. Different surfaces have different reflectances - snow has a very high reflectance (around 80%) and so appears white, whilst the sea can absorb almost all light falling onto it and thus appears dark with a very low (3%) reflectance.

  11. albedo
probability under specified conditions that a neutron entering into a region through a surface will return through that surface Category: Nuclear industry (with applied atomic and nuclear physics)

  18. Albedo
The fraction of the total solar radiation incident on a body that is reflected by it. Albedo can be expressed as either a percentage or a fraction of 1. Snow covered areas have a high albedo (up to about 0.9 or 90%) due to their white color, while vegetation has a low albedo (generally about 0.1 or 10%) due to the dark color and...

12 February 2012

This day in history:
/calendar/ On February 12, 1809, Charles Robert Darwin was born at The Mount in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. Darwin was one of the last of the eclectic scientists who preceded the age of professional specialization. His genius lay in his ability to select, from the facts which he so diligently collected, every relevant point and fit it into his bold and far-reaching theories. He was not the first to advance a theory of evolution; but his massive weight of evidence carried conviction where earlier theorists had failed. He was shy and modest and shrank from controversy, an unfortunate trait in the author of the most controversial book of the century. read more
